Wine Spectator reviews Mollydooker’s 2016 vintage

The Wine Spectator has published its recent review of Mollydooker’s 2016 vintage, awarding four of the wines 93 points, and a further five wines 90 points:

Gigglepot Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 – 93 pts
Opulent, with rich dark chocolate notes dripping over ripe plum, black cherry and raspberry flavours. Supple and creamy at the core, featuring plenty of details of vanilla bean, cinnamon and chai tea that create a powerful wave of flavour that lingers on the long, toasty and spicy finish.

Carnival of Love Shiraz 2016 – 93 pts
Strikes the right balance between dense, dark flavours and a juicy, vibrant note. Apricot, cherry and raspberry flavours are pure, ripe and expressive, mingling well with Earl Grey tea, sarsaparilla and orange zest accents. The tannins are concentrated and a tad rustic on the finish, adding a charming chewy element.

Velvet Glove Shiraz 2016 – 93 pts
Floral white pepper notes announce the juicy core of black tea, plum and tangy cherry flavours, with toasty shadings of spice and cedar that linger on the finish. Shows plenty of harmony and details against velvety tannins. The density and power sneak up on the finish.

Enchanted Path Shiraz/Cabernet 2016 – 93 pts
Plush and plum, offering an expressive mouthful of sarsaparilla-scented blueberry and wild blackberry flavours, accented by plenty of fresh-cracked black pepper and chocolate-covered coffee bean notes. Harmonious and lingering.

The Maitre d’ Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 – 90 pts
Smooth, jammy flavours of blackberry, plum and black liquorice show on a supple frame. Espresso, spice and mahogany details linger on the generous finish.

The Scooter Merlot 2016 – 90 pts
Smooth, dark chocolate and chai tea details add a warm, inviting accent to the cherry and plum notes. Dried floral hints linger on the velvety finish.

Blue Eyed Boy Shiraz 2016 – 90 pts
Bold and expressive, with a medley of juicy berry flavours that mingle with notes of cream soda, orange zest and spice. Chewy tannins add some bite and density to the flavours.

The Boxer Shiraz 2016 – 90 pts
Perfumed, with black tea and dried floral notes that add aromatic intensity to the core of ripe plum, berry and candied cherry. The tannins offer some appealing traction to the density of flavours, finishing with plenty of toasted spice accents.

Two Left Feet 2016 – 90 pts
Plump blackberry, blueberry and maraschino cherry flavours are ripe, smooth and juicy, with plenty of dark chocolate, spice and toasted coconut accents that linger effortlessly on the velvety body. Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
